"How did I MISS that great Cher song? I know the great Cher songs!!"
It happened to me tonight: I went out- miracle in of itself, then another miracle happened: "That's CHER!" playing in the club, I guess it was a remix, because it wasn't familiar a bit to me at first. It's GREAT. Release it, somehow- I know, I know- that won't happen large scale. But in some form, for - it happened with 'Love One Another' - a surprise Grammy nomination. Yes, ONE person on this message board noted the song was great on the cd. I think it slipped by my radar, no 'think' about it, it did. I was 'way down' and the title didn't inspire me to hit replay a lot- feeling sick, depressed, very sad, a song called 'Pride' didn't seem to warrant my attention, such as my attention has been. What?
Wednesday night, in New Haven: "Gosh, she has a wonderful voice, it almost could be Cher" I thought as the repeated phrase "We are, we are the light" seemed to repeat not too much, 8 times maybe, this is once in your life,'' about four times, then ''we are, we are the light"- that was the beginning of the song- People took to the floor dancing- I was loving the singer's voice- I figured it out eventually, though parts of the song were omitted but eventually I heard the word 'Pride'- the song was totally different and Cher's vocal made me feel like a teenager again- and I've like her voice tons, always, but heard more excellence than normal excellence I hear in Cher's voice but before recognizing the song, I thought 'she sounds like an even better CHER"- then -
'my gosh, it IS Cher.' I came home and played the cd cut, very nice, but the mix I heard tonight, 'the light' in it- and in such glorious voice. It's one of the best Cher songs, but when the cd was released, I was feeling shame over my 'should not be happening' severe depression, other crud, and just for some reason didn't replay 'Pride'- proud to be past 50, falling apart over an impending and brutal decline, the song got away- I wonder if it's a new remix and there was nobody in the booth, the bartender was drunk, so I figured I'd smoke cigarette, wrong is wrong, I'd be wrong, too. Others lit up, too. The song ended, I asked it to be played again, the bartender was too drunk to know how to do it, something awful by someone awful came on, and I left and came home and played the song. If any regular club goer has heard the 'we are the light' remix, very prominently it is repeated- I think the song re-introduced as 'We are The Light' would top the dance charts. Much better a title than 'Pride' though 'Pride' is a fine title. "We are the light' seems to be the hook to me. It's the best Cher song I never knew existed. Does anybody else have a great Cher song that suck up on them? Maybe. For me not to know it was even Cher shocks me, having been a fan for 2 centuries. I think it's my favorite song now. Will try to go back to the club when someone is in the booth- they 'do' still call it a booth, don't they?
Longtime fans- bury this thread if it sukcs, or if anyone wants to play, what's the Cher song, if any, that you just took way too long to discover. It does bother me some that I thought it was ''an even better Cher''- good gosh, what a vocal.. It's great, but kind of needs to start in the middle, a stunning remix. Not long- it was like 'edited' to maximize the vocal and the hook, didn't get... sometimes I think remixes ruin the song. This one improved it. Maybe you all think 'Pride' is a good title or the title doesn't matter, for me the song forever more is "We Are The Light'' which 'may' be no more uplifting than the title 'Pride'- ''pride;' is a good thing to have. To think or sing along with or dance to ''we are the light'' elevates the song to more than 'pride', it becomes art. Not that I overthink things. It's a great song. The best Cher song and worthy of a Grammy nomination, late as it is, should it somehow qualify to be submitted.
Whoever mixed or edited it, GENIUS. CHER's vocal- beyond genius. If you missed the song, try it again. Some may not like it.
It made my day, after 2 appointments with some hard news, nothing fatal, could be worse- and CHER was there, my first time in a club- in- years and years. "Pride'' as a title - wrong of me, made me not give the song a chance. That's narrow and or stupid. right?
Answer if you like, however you like, or don't answer a bit. I liked reading the proposed "Male Greatest Hits''- have been giving it some thought, I think Cher could do wonders on one song in particular, but that's another thread and it's 5:49 a.m. Nobody in Cheryuku seems to get night nerves. Sleep tight, be happy, thanks for being here. Where am I?
